Irrigation Checklist

Try some of these easy tips to help save water and money for your business. You can also print this list to keep a copy as a reminder!



Practices

  • Run sprinklers before 9am and after 5pm to avoid evaporation and wind...Save 20-25 gallons per day.
  • Run your sprinklers 10 minutes or less per valve, per cycle…Saves 15-25 gallons per minute.
  • Shorten sprinkler cycles or water less but more frequently during the summer months.
  • Turn off your sprinklers when it rains.
  • During a Water Alert, run your sprinkler no more than once a week from November to March, and no more than 3 times a week from April to October.
  • Fix sprinkler leaks and breaks ASAP. Keep your system off until the leak is repaired…Saves 20 gallons per day.
  • Adjust sprinklers to prevent spraying onto sidewalks, driveways, and streets…Saves 15-25 gallons per day.
  • Add 2-3 inches of mulch around plants to reduce evaporation…Saves 20-30 gallons per day per 1,000 sq. feet.
  • Replace parts of grass lawns with California friendly plants or synthetic turf…Saves 30-60 gallons per day per 1,000 sq. feet.

  • Install “smart controllers” on your sprinkler system…Saves 20-40 gallons per day per 1,000 sq. feet.
  • Install a water-efficient drip irrigation system.
