| Did you know? Almost 50% of our drinking water isn't used for drinking, cooking, or washing. It’s used to water lawns and landscaping – and most of it is wasted. It’s true. Even though we are by the ocean, we live in a semi-arid desert area with relatively little rain or groundwater. Right now, 80% of our water supply comes from the Colorado River and Northern California, but up to half of that water is used to transform our coastal desert into lush suburbs. While the District is dedicated to alleviating our dependence on imported water through projects of our own and collaborations with local agencies, there are things each of us can do every day to help save water, and money, to conserve this precious resource. Please browse our tips, rebates, checklists and garden resources to find a water saving solution that's right for you!
