District Completes Construction on the Dana Point Lantern District Infrastructure Improvement Project

Construction began the week of September 22, 2014 and was completed in November 2015.

South Coast Water District is pleased to announce the completion of the District’s Dana Point Lantern District Infrastructure Improvement Project. The project included water, sewer, and recycled water infrastructure improvements designed to accommodate the expected increase in the number of people living and working in the Lantern District. These improvements are a core element of the City of Dana Point’s long-term plans to create a vibrant, lively, pedestrian-friendly downtown area.

Sewer Construction Dana Point Lantern District

A construction crew worked on sewer infrastructure improvements along Golden Lantern and Del Prado in Dana Point.

The project was centered on two areas: 1) Del Prado from Ruby Lantern to Golden Lantern, and 2) The La Plaza area north of Pacific Coast Highway.

  • 6,100 linear feet of water main
  • 2,354 linear feet of sewer main
  • 720 linear feet of recycled water main

Communication Important to the Project's Success

Communication between residents, businesses, visitors, community groups and the project team was critical to the project’s success. Throughout construction, South Coast Water District communicated with residents and community members in the following ways:

  • Construction Email Alerts: Alerts were developed and distributed to announce upcoming project work areas and schedules.
  • City Communications: SCWD worked closely with the City of Dana Point throughout construction.
  • Website, Media, and Social Media: Regular project updates were posted.
