Develop a reliable local water supply to replace uncertain and decreasing supplies of imported water
Increase potable water production at the Groundwater Recovery Facility from 10% to 20% of the District’s total water supply
Ensure the availability of local water for emergency backup in case the imported water supply is disrupted (earthquake, shutdowns, other events)
The District is planning to increase the capacity of its Groundwater Recovery Facility by adding three new groundwater wells – one immediately and two in the future. The District would install new pipelines to connect the wells to the facility. The wells would not only provide critical backup for the current well, but also extract additional groundwater from the San Juan Basin – as permitted by the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Water Rights. The District would install additional reverse osmosis units in the plant to enable the treatment of 3,194 acre-feet per year of groundwater, which would yield approximately 2,552 acre-feet of potable water per year.
